(1 Thessalonians 5:9-15) – “God has not destined us for wrath…”
The course of our lives is not marked by supernatural dissent. It is not characterized by divine opposition.
Although (apart from Christ) we deserve to have God’s hand laid heavy upon us, we have gotten something much better.
Rather than being destined for the holy and just wrath of God, we are destined to receive the great and glorious salvation of God.
And as people who are to receive this salvation (glorification is in view here), we should be living our lives presently in such a manner that is worthy of that gift.
Walk in a manner worthy of the Gospel. This doesn’t mean earning your worth in Christ, it means that we respond appropriately to what Jesus has done for us.
This life is a life of encouragement. It’s a life of respect and honor.
This type of worthy life is a life of peacemaking. It’s a life where we point out what’s wrong, help people get to the right spot, and always push them towards the grace of God in Christ Jesus.
This is what it looks like to excel still more.
