(2 Thessalonians 1:6-12) – So that Jesus may be glorified!
Paul continues to comfort these dear friends and believers who are in the midst of severe persecution.
God hadn’t forgotten about them (or us). He will make all things right. He will punish the wicked and reward the righteous.
God will have the last word in history. People all over time will have said what they wanted about God, Jesus, Christianity, and Christians, but in the coming of Christ those things will be shown for what they really are…
I’ll quote my Pastor on this thought…”if you knew that you were about to inherit 5 million dollars, wouldn’t that give you a pep in your step when you came to your job the next morning? Even if you didn’t like the job?”
The same is true with the suffering in this life. Because we know we have an eternal inheritance in Christ, it should cause comfort, peace, and security to rule our hearts even while going through hardship.
It should also create an urgency to share with those who are persecuting us. If they do not know God, the punishment is forever and unthinkably horrible.
Paul’s prayer is that the believers would live their lives in such a way that is worthy of the inheritance they are receiving. A tall task!
The faith required for this brings glory to Jesus…the ultimate goal of our lives!
