(Judges 9:42-57) – God repaid the wickedness of Abimelech.
This passage is a sad example of the kind of damage one person can do when they are fully led by their flesh.
Everywhere he went, Abimelech brought destruction, chaos, and turmoil. This is not what the people had in mind when they made him their king.
But that’s what happens when you reject God as your ruler and replace him with a sinner. People make terrible replacements for God.
And the price for getting what they wanted was steep. Getting what you want isn’t always a good thing. Here it led the to the death of thousands….literally.
But God, in His timing, has the last word over Abimelech. The text says that God repaid the wickedness of Abimelech, but how so?
In a moment, God destroys his legacy by showing the fragility of man, ending his life by having a girl drop a rock on his head.
Abimelech does ask for a young man to finish him off with his sword so that people wouldn’t say he got killed by a girl.
But that’s exactly what happened…Abimelech is just trying to feel better about himself. He was put to shame effortlessly by God and brought to ruin in an instant.
And so it will be with ALL evil at the end of Time. God will repay all wickedness and bring it to ruin in an instant.
He will make all things right.
